We often hear the word โ€œCatechumensโ€ and โ€œElectsโ€ frequently during Lent. These words refer to participants who are undergoing the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) programme. Some participants take about a year, while others take years to come to where they are now.

The RCIA process can be divided into four periods which are: – The Period Evangelisation and Pre-catechumenate, Period of the Catechumenate, Period of Purification and Enlightenment and Mystagogy.

These periods are marked by three stages in which the participants receive a rite/sacrament: – The Rite of Acceptance, The Rite of Election and The Rite/Sacrament of Initiation
