𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 (𝐑𝐂𝐈𝐀) We often hear the word “Catechumens” and “Elects” frequently during Lent. These words refer to participants who are undergoing the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) programme. Some participants take about a year, while others take years to come to where they are now.
The RCIA process can be divided into four periods which are: – The Period Evangelisation and Pre-catechumenate, Period of the Catechumenate, Period of Purification and Enlightenment and Mystagogy.
These periods are marked by three stages in which the participants receive a rite/sacrament: – The Rite of Acceptance, The Rite of Election and The Rite/Sacrament of Initiation
